I had not wanted to comment on the Pope's visit to my country, preferring to wait until after his departure, so as not to interfere in any of his apostolic endeavors, but above all to analyze his numerous public pronouncements, both in my country and upon his arrival in other African nations. And how surprised I was to find that he vehemently criticized the public authorities of the sub-Saharan African countries he visited, urging them to "examine their consciences" regarding the following social ills, whereas he had not demanded this during his interventions in my country:

- Corruption of the elites,

- Excessive pursuit of ill-gotten material goods,

- Indifference to social ills,

- Inability to confront violence and armed conflict,

- Excessive cronyism,

- Inability to address the root causes of poverty.

I would tell him: Your lordship, it is true that the ways of the Lord are inscrutable...

Je n'avais pas voulu commenter la visite du Pape dans mon pays, préférant attendre son départ, afin de n'interférer dans aucune de ses postures apostoliques, mais surtout afin de décrypter ses multiples interventions publiques, à la fois chez nous mais également lors de son arrivée dans d'autres pays africains. Et quelle fut ma surprise de constater qu'il a fustigé violement les autorités publiques des pays d'Afrique Noire visités, afin qu'ils fassent "un examen de conscience" de leurs attitudes au sujet de maux sociaux suivants, alors qu'il ne l'avait pas exigé séance tenante lors de ses interventions chez nous :

- Corruption des élites,

- Recherche outrancière de biens matériels mal acquis,

- Indifférence face aux maux sociaux,

- Incapacité à faire face à la violence, aux conflits armés

- Cooptation exacerbée,

- Incapacité à juguler les causes de la pauvreté.

Je lui dirais : Votre seigneurie, il est vrai que les voies du Seigneurs sont impénétrables...

لم أكن أرغب في التعليق على زيارة البابا لبلدي، مفضلاً الانتظار حتى مغادرته، كي لا أتدخل في أي من مساعيه الرسولية، ولكن قبل كل شيء، لأحلل تصريحاته العلنية العديدة، سواء في بلدي أو عند وصوله إلى دول أفريقية أخرى. وكم دهشتُ حين وجدته ينتقد بشدة السلطات العامة في دول أفريقيا جنوب الصحراء التي زارها، حثًّا إياها على "مراجعة ضمائرها" بشأن العلل الاجتماعية التالية، بينما لم يطالب بذلك خلال زياراته لبلدي:

- فساد النخب،

- ​​السعي المفرط وراء الثروات غير المشروعة،

- اللامبالاة تجاه العلل الاجتماعية،

- العجز عن مواجهة العنف والنزاعات المسلحة،

- المحسوبية المفرطة،

- العجز عن معالجة الأسباب الجذرية للفقر.
